What is the difference between Managed Transportation (aka Transportation Management or TM) and a transportation broker?
Apples to oranges. Whereas a transportation broker sources a carrier for a shipper on a more transactional basis , Covenant’s TM solutions are more holistic in nature, providing a range of services not typically associated with a standard brokerage. In addition to the day to day sourcing of carriers (based on an established routing guide), our TM solutions provide other value-added services such as freight pay/audit, carrier claims management, and access to an industry leading Transportation Management System (TMS)
What is a typical cost structure for a TM customer?
Covenant has three distinct TM models with varying degrees of service/integration and with three different cost models and contract length requirements. As a shipper, what sort of visibility will I have to my shipment data?
We provide our customers full access to the Transportation Management System we utilize with the ability to dig into any level of shipment detail that is desired.
Are you guaranteeing cost savings?
It really depends. Each shipper is different which is why we start with the data analysis. At a minimum, our goal is to try to find enough cost savings to offset our fee while providing value in the form of improved service, improved shipment data & visibility, and less administrative overhead. If, through analysis, we find that there is significant potential savings, we aren’t afraid to back that up.
What modes of transportation do you currently manage for other customers?
Our customer base is very diverse with shipment modes ranging from standard dry van full truckload, Less than Truckload, to more specialized equipment such as flatbed, conestoga, refrigerated, etc.
